Canny vs UserVoice: an honest comparison

The category's two best-known names, built for very different buyers. Here is how they actually compare in 2026.

Canny vs UserVoice comparison

The short version. UserVoice invented the feedback board in 2008 and has since moved upmarket: no free plan, no public pricing, quotes reportedly starting around $16,000 a year, and a sales process to match. Canny is the self-serve successor most teams compare it to: a free plan, a $79 a month entry price, the deepest integration ecosystem in the category, and a bill that grows with your tracked users. If you can buy with a credit card, you are almost certainly a Canny customer. If you buy through procurement, UserVoice is still in the conversation.

Yes, we build a competing product. That is exactly why we keep this factual: the pricing and feature notes below are based on publicly available information, and both tools are good at what they do. The question is which buying model and depth fit you.

Pricing: two different orders of magnitude

Canny publishes its prices. There is a free plan for up to 25 tracked users, and Pro starts at $79 a month billed yearly ($99 monthly) for the first 100 tracked users, then climbs on a slider: roughly $129 at 200, $529 at 1,000, and $1,079 at 5,000. Business is a custom quote. A tracked user is a customer whose feedback lives in Canny, so a successful feedback program makes the bill grow. We broke it down in Canny pricing explained.

UserVoice publishes nothing. Quotes are custom, based on feedback volume and integrations, and reportedly start around $16,000 a year. Before the move to custom-only pricing, its published tiers ran from $699 to $1,499 a month. There is no free plan, only a 30-day trial. Details in UserVoice pricing explained.

Chart: monthly cost of WishKit Premium, Canny Pro at 100, 200 and 1,000 tracked users, and UserVoice's reported entry quote

Put side by side, Canny Pro at 1,000 tracked users is still well under half of UserVoice's reported entry point, and even at 5,000 it stays below it. That gap is not an accident. UserVoice priced self-serve buyers out on purpose.

Scope: product team tool versus research platform

Canny is a feedback platform for product teams: boards, roadmap, changelog, and the integrations that connect them to Jira, Salesforce, Intercom, and Zendesk. Autopilot adds AI deduplication and auto-replies. It is deep, but it stays recognizably a feedback tool that a product manager sets up and runs.

UserVoice is a customer research platform that happens to include a feedback board. Research workflows, advanced analytics and reporting, account management, and the kind of governance and security posture procurement teams ask about. If you have a dedicated research function and thousands of customers, that machinery is the point. If you do not, it is weight.

Buying and setup

Canny is self-serve from the first click: sign up, create a board, embed the widget, connect your tools. You can be collecting feedback the same afternoon and see your bill before you commit.

UserVoice starts with a sales call. You will not see a price until you have explained your use case and team size, and onboarding is a project rather than an afternoon. For enterprise procurement that is normal. For everyone else it is a dealbreaker, and UserVoice knows it.

Who should pick which

Pick Canny if you are a product team that wants to start today, your tool stack includes Jira, Intercom, or Salesforce, and you are comfortable with a bill that rises as more customers leave feedback.

Pick UserVoice if you are an enterprise with a research team, procurement requirements, and a budget where five figures a year for customer insight is a rounding error. You are buying the platform and the account management, not just the board.

Pick neither if what you actually need is a board where users post ideas and vote. Both tools are more than that, and you pay for the more.

The third option

Full disclosure: this is our product. WishKit is the focused version of what both tools started as. A feedback board with voting, comments, statuses, and duplicate merging, free to start, and a flat $15 a month for Premium, or $12.50 billed yearly. No tracked-user math, no sales call. Apps on iOS, macOS, visionOS, watchOS and tvOS get a native SwiftUI SDK, which neither Canny nor UserVoice offers, websites embed the same board with two lines of HTML, and WishKit can even capture feature requests from posts on X.

Frequently asked questions

Is Canny cheaper than UserVoice?

By a wide margin. Canny starts free and Pro runs from $79 to roughly $1,079 a month depending on tracked users. UserVoice quotes reportedly start around $16,000 a year, which is more than $1,300 a month before any add-ons.

Does UserVoice have a free plan?

No. UserVoice offers a 30-day trial only. Canny has a free plan. If a free plan is a requirement, see our list of UserVoice alternatives, most of which have one.

Can I move from UserVoice to Canny?

Yes. Export your feedback from UserVoice and import it into Canny. Most teams that leave UserVoice for a self-serve tool land on Canny because the integration depth is closest to what they had. If you want something lighter, WishKit will help you migrate if you email support@wishkit.io.

What if I only need a feedback board?

Then both are more than you need. A focused tool like WishKit covers the board, voting, and statuses for free or $15 a month, and adds a native SDK for apps. See the WishKit vs Canny comparison for the honest feature-by-feature picture.
